Halal Champion

As envisaged under the Third Industrial Master Plan (IMP3) for the strategic development and promotion of Malaysia as a Global Halal Hub, the halal industry remains one of the pivotal engines of growth for Malaysia’s economy. As a matter of fact, Dato’ Seri Jamil Bidin has mentioned recently that the halal industry is expected to contribute 5.8 per cent to the country’s gross domestic product by 2020 as compared with less than two per cent currently. This is, in fact, a challenging expectation; however, Malaysia has the advantage of providing a holistic and comprehensive approach to the halal industry or halal eco-system (as we call it) as compared with many countries in the halal market.

As one of the HDC’s main objectives is to focus on the promotions and facilitation of growth and participation of Malaysian companies in the global halal market, hence, HDC has introduced the Halal Champion Company Programme (HCCP). This programme is intended to give recognition to Malaysian companies that have demonstrated a commitment towards promoting halal products and services. In addition, through this programme, HDC is also determined to develop Malaysian halal products and services with unique positioning and value propositions in the international market via enhancement in both skills and scale of the Halal Champion. Consequently, these  “Halal Champions" will nurture its Malaysian business partners within their network including their suppliers and contract manufacturers.
